Joseph Williams, the son of John Williams, the legendary film composer and actress Barbara Ruick from 1950s, is now replacing Fergie Frederiksen as lead vocalist. In 1999, the band released Mindfields and begin an extensive tour across the globe. After a few months in Europe they travel to Japan where the shows are sold out. After a brief hiatus, Toto resumes their recording and releases their first live album, Absolutely Live in 1993. It also features a cover of Weezer's song Hash Pipe as a response to the band covering Africa during their recent tour. Toto's touring lineup includes drummer Lenny Castro and bassist Shannon Forrest along with keyboardist Shem Von Schroeck.

However, Toto reunited in 2010 to perform a benefit for the ALS Foundation. This was the first time all the original Toto members had been on stage together in over 31 years. In addition to the original members, keyboardist Greg Tambu filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate filled in for Shem Von Schroeck.

The album was a return to the band's best form, and the tour that accompanied it was a sold-out event in North America and Europe. Toto's reunion was bolstered by the inclusion of guitarist Steve Lukather and bassist Shem von Schroeck, who both returned to the band.
