The majority of evidence with regards to minimally invasive liver resection (MILR) favors its application in minor hepatectomies. We conducted a propensity score-matched (PSM) analysis to determine its feasibility and safety in major hepatectomies (MIMH) for liver malignancies.

Retrospective review of 130 patients who underwent MIMH and 490 patients who underwent open major hepatectomy (OMH) for malignant pathologies was performed. PSM in a 11 ratio identified two groups of patients with similar baseline clinicopathological characteristics. Perioperative outcomes were then compared. Major hepatectomies included traditional major (>3 segments) and technical major hepatectomies (right anterior and right posterior sectionectomies).

Both cohorts were well-matched for baseline characteristics after PSM. Of 130 MIMH cases, there were 12 conversions to open. Comparison of perioperative outcomes demonstrated a significant association of MIMH with longer operation time and more frequent application of Pringle's maneuver (PM), but decreased postoperative stay. These results were consistent on a subgroup analysis that only included patients undergoing traditional major hepatectomies. A second subgroup analysis restricted to cirrhotic patients demonstrated that while perioperative outcomes were equivalent, MIMH was similarly associated with a longer operative time. Subset analyses of resections performed after 2015 demonstrated that MIMH was additionally associated with a lower postoperative morbidity compared to OMH.

High compliance within enhanced recovery protocols is associated with lower complication rates. Understanding which clinical characteristics make patients more prone to fail adequate adherence to enhanced recovery after surgery guidelines are essential to improve quality care. Our aim was to identify patient characteristics that influence adherence to enhanced recovery protocols in colorectal surgery.

A total of 1041 patients underwent colorectal surgery under ERPs from September 2017 through December 2017 across 21 institutions in Spain. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the role of formulated RSV-Se nanoparticles (RSV-SeNPs) on neurochemical and histopathological approaches associated with the AD model in rats induced by Aluminum chloride (AlCl3) at a dose of 100 mg/kg/day for 60 days. RSV-SeNPs supplementation attenuates the impaired oxidative markers and mitochondrial dysfunction. The ameliorative effect of RSV-SeNPs on cholinergic deficits was associated with clearance of amyloid β (Aβ). Furthermore, activation of phosphatidylinositol 3 kinase (PI3K) deactivates glycogen synthase kinase 3 beta (GSK-3β)-mediated tau hyperphosphorylation. Additionally, RSV-SeNPs downregulate signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT3) expression as well as interleukin-1β (IL-1β) levels, therefore alleviating neuroinflammation in AD. Moreover, RSV-SeNPs upregulate the expression of Sirtuin-1 (SIRT1) and lower that of microRNA-134, consequently increasing neurite outgrowth. Eventually, the obtained results showed that nano-formulation of resveratrol with selenium maximized the therapeutic potential of RSV against Alzheimer's disease not only by their antioxidant but also by anti-inflammatory effect improving the neurocognitive function and modulating the signaling pathways.
Few studies have yet examined sleep quality among puerperal women during thecoronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. This cross-sectional study aimed to compare the sleep quality of puerperal women before and during the COVID-19 pandemic in Lanzhou, China. The study exploreed the factors that affect sleep quality among puerperal women.

The study population comprised puerperal women who went to the obstetric department of the Gansu Provincial Maternity and Childcare Hospital on the 42nd day after childbirth. Sleep quality was measured using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Data were collected by doctors in the obstetric department before the COVID-19 pandemic (Oct.-Dec. 2019) and during the COVID-19 pandemic (Feb.-Apr. 2020) in China. Multiple linear regressions were used to examine the association between the sleep quality of puerperal women and COVID-19 andto identify factors that affect the total PSQI scores.

In 2019, 546 puerperal women were assessed compared with 655who were assessed in 2020. Compared with before COVID-19, the total PSQI scores of puerperal women improved during the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, the influencing factors of sleep quality among puerperal women were the pandemicitself, age, conception method, and postpartum depression (PPD).

Specifically, individuals with obesity show diminished grey matter volume and thickness, which seems to be more prominent among fronto-temporal regions in the brain. We also identify current gaps in knowledge and outline recommendations for future research.This experiment was aimed to determine the possible beneficial effects of dietary ascorbic acid (AA) on hematological indices, immune responses, and antioxidative capacity of Oncorhynchus mykiss treated with antibiotic oxytetracycline (OTC). A total of 150 fish were divided evenly among five experimental groups (30 fish of each, in 3 replicates) receiving diets containing OTC (0 and 100 mg per kg fish weight) and AA (100, 200, 400, and 800 mg per kg fish diet) for 28 days. Treatments include group A or control (100 mg AA without OTC), group B (100 mg AA with OTC), group C (200 mg AA with OTC), group D (400 mg AA with OTC), and group E (800 mg AA with OTC). The results obtained showed that the hematological indices (red blood cells, white blood cells, hematocrit, hemoglobin, and neutrophils), immunological parameters (plasma lysozyme, plasma complement, and skin mucus alkaline phosphatase activities), and antioxidant enzymes activities (superoxide dismutase and catalase) were significantly decreased by OTC in O. mykiss fed control diet (P  less then  0.05). The results also revealed that OTC significantly increased the activity of biochemical enzymes (aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, and alkaline phosphatase) in the plasma of O. mykiss fed control diet (P  less then  0.05). However, in comparison to the control diet, feeding fish with higher amounts of AA (400 and 800 mg/kg diet) significantly restored the hematological, immunological, and antioxidative responses in OTC-treated groups (p  less then  0.05). The L3~L5 spinal cord was isolated on postoperative days 1/12 (POD1/12), 1 (POD1), and 14 (POD14) for RNA sequencing to investigate the gene expression profiles of the initiation, transition, and maintenance stages of HNP. A total of 1682, 430, and 413 differentially expressed genes were obtained in POD1/12, POD1, and POD14, respectively, and their similarity was low. Bioinformatics analysis confirmed that POD1/12, POD1, and POD14 exhibited different biological processes and signaling pathways. Inflammation, oxidative damage, apoptosis, and inflammation-related signaling pathways were enriched on POD1/12.
