Lise mezunudur. 1976'da Hak-İş'in kuruluşu ile sendikal faaliyetlerine başladı. Hak-İş Konfederasyonu ve Öz Gıda-İş Sendikası Genel Başkanlığı; Türkiye Kalp ve Akciğer Organ Nakli Vakfı Kurucular Kurulu Üyesi ve Genel Sekreterliği; AB-Türkiye Ekonomik ve Sosyal Konsey Karma İstişare Komitesi Üyeliği ve Eş Başkanlığı görevlerinde bulundu. Uluslararası Sendikalar Konfederasyonu ile Avrupa Sendikaları Konfederasyonu İcra Kurulu Üyeliği; ILO Cenevre Delegasyonu, Uluslararası Endüstriyel İlişkiler Derneği, Türk Endüstriyel İlişkiler Derneği, Türkiye Ekonomi ve Sosyal Etüdler Vakfı, Stratejik Düşünce Enstitüsü Yüksek İstişare Kurulu ve Beşiktaş Futbol Kulübü Genel Kurul Üyeliklerinin yanında Türkiye Gönüllü Teşekkülleri Vakfı Kurucu Üyeliği ve Alaca Eğitim Vakfı Mütevelli Heyeti Yönetim Kurulu Üyeliği görevlerinde bulundu. Hak-İş Konfederasyonu Onursal Başkanı seçildi. TBMM XXIV. ve XXV. Dönem Çorum milletvekilidir. XXIV. Dönemde Türkiye Büyük Millet Meclisi İdare Amiridir. Evli ve 3 çocuk babasıdır.
