chincilla hidup bersama dengan pasangan yg sama selamanya. musim kawin berlangsung bulan mei sampai november. masa subur chincilla betina selama sekitar 2 hari, biasanya saat musim dingin. masa kehamilan sekitar 105-115 hari
- melahirkan
melahirkan sekitar 2-3 bayi. berat rata-rata bayi 45 gram. chincilla liar bisa hidup sampai 10 tahun, sementara chincilla peliharaan sampai 20 tahun.
