Vigilantes working for a local cattle baron are stringing up "rustlers"- essentially, anyone who might get in the cattle baron's way.
10) In the foothills outside of town, there is one of the largest remaining herds of wild horses. The three largest ranch owners have been supplementing their cattle income for the last fifteen years by taking a half dozen wild horses from the herd here and there, once or twice a year, to make ends meet. It's always been an unspoken agreement that no rancher would take too many horses so that the herd's numbers would stay stable. Well, the oldest of the ranchers have lately decided that he is entitled to as many wild horses as his men can round up, and to hell with anybody else.
30) A gang of men come in looking for the town drunk. He eventually gets a gun and starts shooting down the newcomers right and left (dang he was a top gun...) The first gang was just a small part of a larger gang who would prefer to capture him alive (then kill him) or just kill him. Your town is now a war zone.
