It should have been me.

I've known Melissa since the 2nd grade,and I just don't really know what to say when it really comes down to it.She was a really big part of my life,she would come over every other weekend.We would go to my tire swing,and play a game we called Battle of the monsters.We used to go down to the creek by my house and look for nice looking rocks,and heart shaped ones too,we were practically inseparable.She would help me with my school work,and I would help her with a few social problems she would have from time to time.When 6th grade-I mean middle school,came around,we started changing and growing differently.Melissa was more concerned with her looks and with her intellect,and I was busy with my own appearance and trying to stay in shape.It seemed as if we were starting to grow apart.It didn't help later on in middle school,when we both got into different friend groups.Melissa was hanging out with the popular girls,and I was chilling with a few guys who played football.By the time 8th grade came around,it's like we were just two different people.She was like the schools queen,and I was just like a knight,nameless and faceless to the queen.But when we got into high school,things changed.We started to drift closer together again,and I was starting to get happier.She was getting happier too,I could tell.We started hanging out together again,and we even started seeing each other on the weekends.Everything was going great,everything was soaring!Then,one weekend we were climbing trees,we ended up kissing.After the kiss,we started dating each other,and I couldn't wrap my head around it.We were such good friends,then for three years we drifted as far away from each other as we could,but now we were closer than ever.High school felt like it was just flying by.Sophomore year,last year,we were out on a date.The date was going great,and we were strolling through town,having a fun time.I mentioned something about this girl,Jess.She was one of the girls inside of Melissa's friend group back in middle school.I couldn't take a hint,and Melissa didn't want to participate in this subject.She thought I had feelings for Jess,so she stormed off down the street back towards her house.We lived on the same street,she lived three houses down from my own.When I was walking home debating things,there was sirens,flashing lights,an ambulance on the road,caution tape was put up.I ran over towards the crowd to see what was going on,and when I saw who it was,I started jumping over the tape,I went past the officers,and straight over to the scene.When Melissa got mad and stormed back towards her house,she was attacked by an assailant who had shot her through the chest with a silenced pistol.Nobody on the street noticed her until a car driving through the neighborhood stopped and called 911.If it wasn't for me causing her to storm off,this wouldn't of happened.After our date,she was gonna go to her fathers house,and I was gonna walk home.It should have been ME who was shot,not her!She didn't deserve it,but I did,I practically sent her to her end!She's gone now,all because of me.I will always cherish the time we spent together Melissa.It just...should have been me.
