Four transparent cups
3 pieces of plastic wrap (to cover the three experimental cups)
4 thermometers
Toothpicks (used to poke holes for two out of the four cups)
5 grain seeds per cup (20 grain seeds in total)
4 cups of soil (1 cup of soil per cup)
⅓ cup of water per cup
Rulers (to measure the width & height of the plant)
1 pinch of pebbles per cup (to provide structure for the soil)
PROCEDURE: (Friday, March 9, 2018)
Control Group: Open Environment (no covering will be placed on top of this particular cup)
Week 1 (Setting Up The Trials):
Take out one cup and pour in 1 cup of soil
Add a pinch of pebbles and mix them in with the 1 cup of soil
Place seed into the soil & insert it a few centimeters down into the soil
Insert a thermometer into the cup by sticking it a few centimeters down into the soil
Pour in a ⅓ cup of water into the cup
If the cup has a covering w/ a few holes, proceed to wrap the cup with a sheet of plastic wrap & use a needle to punch in about 4 holes onto the cover
If the cup has a covering w/ many holes, proceed to wrap the cup with a sheet of plastic wrap & use a needle to punch in about 8 holes onto the cover
If the cup has a closed cover, proceed to wrap the cup with a sheet of plastic wrap
Record all necessary results (height, width, temperature, # of leaves, observations)
Week 2:
DO NOT ADD ANYMORE WATER TO THE CUPS
Make sure to not touch any of the coverings that are on the covered cups!
Leave all containers in the same exact conditions as the previous week
Once more, record all necessary results (height, width, temperature, # of leaves, observations)
