Do you know what is one of the popular subcultures in teenagers and why it is popular? Cosplay is a performance art in which participants create elaborate costumes and accessories based off of a specific character. According to CosMode by Editors of Broccoli Books, the origin of the term cosplay came from Nov Takahashi in 1984. While he was visiting his first Cosplay convention called Comic Con. He was so impressed by the costumes and the hard work of the costume designers that he frequently reported about it in online articles, and referred to the event as a Cosplay convention. Many people believe that Cosplay came from Japan. Unfortunately, there is no known source of where Cosplay originally started.
However, despite the fact that Cosplay wasn't invented within Japan, it is impeccable to say that the Japanese have been heavily influenced by Cosplay. A good example would be Japan's Harajuku station, which is famous for its large number of Cosplay cafes. Within these cafes are waitresses and waiters who are dressed up in costume, serving you breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Cosplay means the real people dress up like a specific character, like a character in games or cartoons to represent that character. A good cosplayer will not just wear the similar costume from that character, they will imitate character action, expression, and sounds. My love for the characters makes cosplay unique to me. All in all, I’m participating in cosplay because the various characters can communicate with the people who have the same interest, and can learn a skill.
When I was a freshman in high school, I got to know Alyssa. At that time, she has been playing cosplay for many years. She introduced cosplay to me and invited me to participate in cosplay. It is amazing that we figure out we love the same character — Rem, and she is our favorite cartoon character, too. My friends feel weird that I love Rem but I have never cosplay her. I know some people will cosplay the characters that they love, but not me. I will cosplay the characters that I like but not love. On Halloween, kids and cosplay lovers will dress up to become the different people, virtual characters, or animals. But, Halloween isn’t the only day that we can dress up and people don’t feel weird. Every year, different states and countries will have Comic-Con. It’s a good place for cosplayers to know. It is a convention that can help cosplayers develop an interest in cosplaying different characters and to appreciate beautiful things. People wearing different characters costumes, it may be the suit, wedding dress, or kimono that from the character in cartoons or games and went to Comic-Con. It is like a new field that cosplayers can don’t care about everything but only the character they cosplay. Comic-Con has a lot of beautiful costumes and cosplayers. It attached the people that don’t interest in cosplay to go there. Also, when people watched movies or cartoons, there is a character that they like, but he dies. They can buy his costume and simulate him.
One the highly held value by the cosplayers is a accuracy in person effort and paying great attention to detail in the cosplay. This is depicted through undertaking a through research on the fictional( fans) character one wants to dress like, choosing the right colors and material for the costume as well as the general putting together of the entire costume. To enhance this, a majority of the cosplayers make a lot of internet usage and high quality photography in drawing attention to the cosplaying skills. To ensure that the achieve accuracy that bring them together and display their skills. During these events , they share tips on how to improve their skills.
People can find sustenance by cosplay the characters they like. It’s a way that feels character come true too. Cosplay is an expensive subculture. Being a cosplayer will spend a lot of money by buying the cosplay costumes and the ticket of Comic-Con. So, participating in cosplay isn’t that easy for some people. However, People participate in cosplay for different reasons. For me, I just like the characters in the cartoons and want to be that person and the beautiful costumes are the glamour of cosplay.
Cosplay attract teenagers to make them feels happiness by making friends. It was fortunate that my best friends Melody and Alyssa both likes cosplay, and they become good cosplayer, better than me. I like Japanese anime characters more, Melody likes the characters in Overwatch, and Alyssa likes Chinese ancient costumes. Although we like to cosplay different characters, we still have the same subculture. If just started cosplaying and the friends don’t participate cosplay. Don’t worry, go to Comic-Con and make friends right there. Comic-Con is a good place for people to communicate with others that have the same interest. Also, online is a good way to learn about cosplay and make friends. Because cosplay is popular with teenagers and many people participated, it’s easy to make friends. People in Comic-Con can find the person that wears the same costume or cosplay same character but different costume. That’s the same interest and love the same character. Be brave, go and talk. It is hard at the first time, but when having more friends later, will get more and more fun in it. It’s not just cosplaying the characters with friends, some cosplayers will dress up to record the dance or sing the songs. And then posted on online to let people watch it. The last character that I cosplay is a girl from the game of Onmyoji. I participated that character in Los Angeles Comic-Con with my friends Alyssa and Melody. I don’t like take pictures in my life, but if I cosplay a character, when people ask me to take a picture with them, I will very happy to do that. However, cosplay becomes a popular subculture is because it helps people to make friends that have the same hobby.
Cosplay is a good subculture that helps people to learn a skill of craftsmanship. Some of the costumes and weapons no way to buy it. In that situation, people need to create it. Some of the people really enjoy and get fun by making the costume and building the weapons. One time, my friend Alyssa want to cosplay a beauty in Chinese ancient costume but needs a flower umbrella. Online doesn’t have that item, so she bought an oiled paper umbrella and artificial flower. We create that flower umbrella together by using the glue to stick the flowers on top of the umbrella. We spend about 3 hours to make it. It takes a long time, but we really enjoy it and feels pretty good about it. Cosplay can be a job too. Cosplayers will dress up to attracts customers, hope people can go to their store to buy the goods. Cosplay isn’t a meaningless, waste of time and money. Some people will be creative by making those items.
Cosplay become one of the popular subcultures for teenagers is a good thing for cosplayers because they can share the interest and hobby with more and more people. But be careful of participating in cosplay because there are some bad things happen. Don’t sexually harass the cosplayers. When some of the cosplayers trying to participate with the characters they like, and the costume is a little bit sexy, but be respectful to them. Don’t touch, just take the picture. Avoid the risks of the cosplay, be a good person. However, participating in cosplay really change my life. I’m a homebody and pretty lazy. So I don’t have lots of friends, but cosplay makes me want to go out to make friends. Getting to know more people can make me know more characters and can share the experience with others.
