Bagian bawah, kepala dan leher berwarna putih
Iris coklat.
- Kuku, paruh dan sera berwarna abu-abu.
Tungkai tanpa bulu dan kaki berwarna abu-abu.
- Saat terbang ekornya yg pendek tampak seperti baji dan sayapnya terangkat berbentuk V
- Dapat ditemui terutama di Kabupaten Jepara atau daerah pesisir sungai, rawa-rawa dan danau. Biasanya berputar-putar sendiri/berkelompok dengan ketinggian mencapai 3000 m
- Di Pulai Kalimantan dan Asia Tenggara --> Januari sampai Juli
Di Jawa dan Sulawesi --> Mei sampai Oktober
Jumlah telur biasanya hanya dua.
Masa pengeraman 40-45 hari
Termasuk hewan yg setia dan hanya memiliki satu pasangan
- Lebar sarang : 1,2 - 1,5 m
Kedalaman sarang : 0,5 - 1,8 m
Terdiri dari dedaunan hijau, rerumputan dan rumput laut
- Makanannya termasuk ular laut, kura-kura, penyu kecil, petrell, camar, cikalang, pecuk dan cangak
- Memangsa dengan cara berputar mengawasi permukaan air dan seketika akan meluncur begitu melihat mangsa. Menangkap mangsa dengan kakinya yg kuat kemudian membawa mangsanya terbang.
