It was a virus that was said to be 'unusually aggressive' and so the weaker immune systems of children and middle aged adults were affected mainly.
The disease was said to attack your immune systems and overcrowded hospitals, malnourishment and poor hygiene during the war were the main contributions.
Most influenza outbreaks disproportionately kill juvenile, elderly, or already weakened patients; in contrast, the 1918 pandemic predominantly killed previously healthy young adults.
