The Lindisfarne Gospels:
-the monks would have a room dedicated to writing= a scriptorium
-has bright blues, turquoise, and gold to illuminate the manuscript
-has interlocking animals and shapes to help get a person into a contemplative meditative state
-complex/ a lot of time and planning was put into this to pass on stories that were important to the specific person
-when you have an initial or book letter it is an illuminated manuscript
-each evangelist has their own symbol: Matthew is a man, suggesting the human aspect of Christ; Mark’s the lion, symbolizing the triumphant and divine Christ of the Resurrection; and John’s the eagle, referring to Christ’s second coming

The Bayeux Tapestry:
-very long: 230 feet long
-telling a story
-commemorates a struggle for the English throne by William the conqueror
-All the values are the same very 2 dimensional
-not a true tapestry because it is not embroidered by sewn
-type of chronicle but includes episodes and does not relate to the Norman conquest
-we get an idea of culture, clothing, weapons, etc. of the time
-power and passion
