Regional Sales App
A majorly abstract and fairly informal proposal for a mobile&web app
The Gist:
Two types of users will be present: customers and shop owners. Shop owners will register their shops, specifying its location. Then the owner may upload any discounts, sales or specials to the system, to the shop's profile. Customers using the app may see these discounts only when they are at a certain distance to the relevant shop.
Further Feature Ideas:
A web app may be constituted just to let people know of the deal&sale hot-spots all around the world. Customers may look up hot-spots based on total deals, or on the type of product/service and head to those to go shopping.
Why It Is Different:
Most deal sites often try to get a commission out of such deals. They also practically go an hunt for a deal to deliver to the users of their service. However, this application will not get a commission(see Cons section) nor it will go and look for deals to deliver to its users. Show owners will upload their deals themselves. All this service does will be to help the shop owner to reach out to the customer through a new platform. Once the platform is set and enough shop owners are using the product, there is nothing development team needs to do to "find new deals".
Why the Distance?
Spatial proximity has been a cool concept in recent mobile and social apps(e.g. Highlight, etc.). Although there are lots of websites people may get product and services from, people still choose to shop physically for fundamentals (food, clothing, gifts, etc.). An app which would offer them the excitement of discounts as they shop
Considering the fact that most of the keen shoppers are female, this app may make them feel like they can go right at the destination rather than to rush into every store around them.
Also, if the hot-spot feature mentioned above is implemented, shoppers will be drawn into the areas where they will know there are lots of hot(i.e. may imply the majority of the discount or the amount of customers flocking to that deal) deals.
Drawbacks:
No business model ideas to earn money from this product. It is reasonable that the app should be free.People will essentially use the app to spend money, and asking them to spend some more money to us is naturally a turn off for them.
Can not be implemented in Turkey. Turkey may have 10-15M people who know what internet is and may have a Facebok account or something, but there are not more than 4-5M active internet users. This number decreases even more when users who access internet(i.e. not wireless) from their mobile devices are considered.
What To Do:
Design a prototype. Apply to combinator companies such as YCombinator and try and implement the idea to a central abroad location such as San Francisco or New York. This way, spreading the app would be even easier considering that such combinator companies have a great network ecosystem between businesses.
