Thesis 1: The monster is a cultural body, created from two varying cultures and their crossroads.
Thesis 2: The monster is both real and not real, it exists disappears or is beaten but becomes a recurring theme in other places.
Thesis 3: The monster appears when there is an outlier to categories, when it cannot be classified in the "order of things".
Thesis 4:The Monster Dwells at the Gates of Difference
It comes from the differences of people. It can be cultural, political, racial, economic, sexual. Black people used to be evil in history. Anything that can be used as a scapegoat and this is the basis of the differences becoming monsters theory.
Thesis 5:The Monster Polices the Borders of the Possible
The idea of being safely content with what you have creates a fear for the outside. Moana is a good example. The outside will be dangerous and punishing more often than not. This monster exists to enforce the bonds that hold a system together, to hold culture together. These monsters are normally human ideas. They are ideas of people's flaws but amplified. Vehicle of prohibition. Interracial mixing.
Thesis 6: Fear of thee Monster is Really a Kind of Desire
Monsters are made to normalize and to enforce. They are also freely expressed in movies and books because there is still the idea of safety. It is an expression to show hyperbole. In the sense that they are limiting, they can be positive. The idea of an unknown paradise is enticing.
Thesis 7: The Monster Stands at the Threshold of Becoming
Monsters only exist because we think of them.
