Notes

An important part of my Boston trip was Patrick, a british guy who stayed in our hostel. There was me, Brian, and Matthew, Reilly, and Quinn. We had finished playing poker for the night and noticed two people, snuggling quite close in front of the TV. Reilly dared me to go and sit on the couch next to them, and so, of course, I did just that. So I sat down next to them, and all this sudden the man said, "What are you doing here?" I was immediately taken aback. He seemed like he might be a very stern guy, judging from that comment. I responded, "Just watching 'How I Met Your Mother.'" And then he said, "No. In Boston hahahaha." And with that, a four hour conversation with Patrick was afoot. Matthew, Quinn, and Reilly sat on the couch with us and we talked for a while. Soon, Reilly and Quinn went to bed, however, Matthew and I would continue to talk with Patrick for 3.5 more hours, into the early morn. We spoke of life, love, wants, desires, aspirations, dreams. We learned that Patrick is an engineer for Rolls Royce working on airplane engines. He taught us about how engines work and we discussed the 2016 election and brexit. Patrick, as long as I shall live, will remind me that people are extremely interesting, and that I should always try to make friends wherever I go. He is a heroic, beautiful man that will continue to traverse the fabric of time and reality, shedding light and color on his surroundings and the people he encounters.
