Obat antipiretik adalah obat untuk menurunkan panas. Hanya menurunkan temperatur tubuh saat panas tidak berefektif pada orang normal. Dapat menurunkan panas karena dapat menghambat prostatglandin pada CNS.
Macam-macam obat Antipiretik:
1. Benorylate
Benorylate adalah kombinasi dari parasetamol dan ester aspirin. Obat ini digunakan sebagai obat antiinflamasi dan antipiretik. Untuk pengobatan demam pada anak obat ini bekerja lebih baik dibanding dengan parasetamol dan aspirin dalam penggunaan yang terpisah. Karena obat ini derivat dari aspirin maka obat ini tidak boleh digunakan untuk anak yang mengidap Sindrom Reye.
2. Piralozon
Di pasaran piralozon terdapat dalam antalgin, neuralgin, dan novalgin. Obat ini amat manjur sebagai penurun panas dan penghilang rasa nyeri. Namun piralozon diketahui menimbulkan efek berbahaya yakni agranulositosis (berkurangnya sel darah putih), karena itu penggunaan analgesik yang mengandung piralozon perlu disertai resep dokter.
