When I was younger, about the age of 11, my family and I watched the movie 'Gifted Hands'. The movie is about a neurosurgeon, Ben Carson, who went through many hardships in life. This included the absence of his father, the low income of his mother, vision problems, and problems with staying focused and understanding the subjects needed to become a surgeon. Even through all these obstacles, he persevered, and went into the medical field. His most famous accomplishment in his medical career was the separating of conjoined twins, and he ended his run in medicine in 2013. By that time, he chose to become a part of politics. Ben Carson is the reason that I chose to follow a medical career. His perseverance in becoming something other than poor and making his mother and family proud made me realize that while the road to success in medicine is rough, it can be accomplished. His story strengthened my faith and my relationship with God, as Ben did. But not only did his actions and spirituality become something that interested me in medicine-his skilled hands also took a part in my inspiration.
