Insting
Dalam perilaku ini dikenal adanya istilah insting terutama berupa insting dasar yang menjadikan suatu hewan dapat melakukan sesuatu atau bertindak dalam kondisi tertentu. Contoh perilaku ini adalah sang anak yang baru lahir dapat menemukan sendiri kelenjar susu induknya untuk dapat memperoleh makanan dari air susu. Perilaku Planaria yang menghindar dari cahaya juga merupakan contoh dari perilaku insting. Insting sendiri adalah perilaku innate klasis yang sulit dijelaskan, walaupun demikian terdapat beberapa perilaku insting yang merupakan hasil pengalaman, belajar dan adapula yang merupakan factor keturunan.
Pola Aksi Tetap (Fixed Action Pattern/FAP)
Merupakan perilaku steretipik yang merupakan serangkaian aktivitas oleh adanya stimulus spesifik. Contoh dari perilaku ini:
1. Saat anak burung baru menetas akan selalu membuka mulutnya, kemudian induknya akan menaruh makanan di dalam mulut anak burung tersebut.
2. Pada perilaku kawin pada burung merak, burung jantan akan menunjukkan keindahan warna ekor bulunya.
3. Induk burung tidak perlu belajar untuk memberi makan anaknya yang baru menetas, anak bebek tidak perlu belajar berenang.
4. Ritme cycardian (jam biologis) juga dimasukkan kedalam jenis perilaku pola aksi tetap misalnya kelelawar insektivora yang hanya aktif di malam hari.
