I'm Venu, B.Tech 4th year student. I'm applying for --- award and I have found some discrepancies in the crirteria of selection. As the University Captain for athletics, these issues are hindering the interest of the students from participating in sports activities in inter-college competitions.
1) Criteria number 1: I had won the second place/silver medal in shot put at the BITS Pilani Sports meet which is India's second largest sports meet with over 100 colleges participating. Now please explain me, how this is considered on the same level as winning a silver medal during a sports competition organised at NU in which there is next to no competition when compared the the BITS event?
2) The marks for paper presentation is 10 marks, while winning a gold medal at any large sports meet is 5 marks. India's top ranked athletes also participated in BITS Pilani sports meet. Competing with and winning medal is not a easier job than presenting a paper.
3) I've been actively participating in sports meets for the past three years. In my experience of participating in inter-college events, I've seen loads of students representing other colleges and they come in groups to support their sportspersons. Meanwhile from NU, I'm the only representative for athletics. The lack of encouragement of sports is the main reason the people are not comming forward to show thier talent on the field.
Please take appropriate action and create an environvent where our students can actively participate in National Sports Meets and hopefully in the Olympics in the near future.
