Self-acceptance is important for a healthy mentality and it should not be manipulated. Family members are also a big influence on their children. If parents tend to be insecure themselves about their own weight, they may unintentionally cause their child or teenager to think negatively about themselves too. "Parents may comment on their teenagers' weight or eating habits and inadvertently wound their self-esteem and damage their body image." Teenagers will take these comments very personally and not only will it hurt their feelings, but it will cause them to go down a path of dangerous dieting. The media can influence teenagers tremendously with many celebrity displaying unrealistically slim bodies. Today's group of teens are always comparing themselves to the models on television or the rich music artists with small waists. These 3 main influences are to be known as the cause of young adults dieting.
Dieting teenagers can risk a lot in their lives. Puberty will cease to continue; resulting in the halt of menstruation in girls and can reduce muscle growth in boys. Eating disorders can be developed very quickly and are known to be very dangerous.
