Protego merupakan mantra pelindung yang membuat penghalang atau perisai untuk memantulkan mantra, melindungi suatu daerah atau seseorang.
Sihir yang terkena mantra protego akan terpantul kembali mengenai sang perapal atau ke arah lain, maupun menghilang. Mantra ini termasuk mantra tingkatan sulit. Sebagaimana penyihir yang bekerja di kementrian pun tidak dapat membuat protego dengan sempurna. Protego bisa menangkis mantra apapun kecuali kutukan tak termaafkan.
Macam-macam protego yakni:
1. Protego Duo

Protego duo memiliki efek untuk melindungi seseorang atau si pemantra itu sendiri. Tidak bersifat area. Protego Duo yang ini memiliki efek yang lebih kuat dari protego biasanya, namun tidak sekuat dibanding variasi lainnya.
2. Protego Horribilis

3. Protego Maxima

Pergerakan tongkat: Diarahkan ke langit
Peafalan: pro-TAY-goh MAKS-ee-ma
Tipe: Charm
Warna: Putih kebiruan.
Protego ini sudah memiliki cakupan area yang lebih luas daripada protego yang lain, dan dapat menghasilkan efek luar biasa jika dikombinasikan dengan mantra Fianto Duri, Repello Inimicum, Salvio Hexia. Dengan menggunakan kombinasi ini, materi di luar barrier yang melewati batas dapat langsung hancur. Sedangkan yang berada di luar perisai tidak dapat mendengar atau melihat penyihir yang dilindungi.
4. Protego Totalum
Protego Totalum
Pergerakan tongkat: Diacungkan
Pelafalan: pro-TAY-goh TOH-tuh-luhm
Tipe: Charm
Warna: Tidak ada (berkabut).
Berfungsi untuk melindungi area kecil di sekitar pemantra dari serangan dalam jangka waktu tertentu.
