- surely the way these women can just discard their own newborn children makes them all mentally unstable??

9TH September 1674
- two women, guilty of the 'horrid sin of murder' of their children
- their crimes were separate but because they were so similar the women were put together on the same trial
- one tried to 'cast her child into a House of Office' and the other tried to bury hers in a cellar
- they both said their children were still-born which is a very common excuse for infanticide
- there was one credible witness and both women were 'condemned to die'.
15TH January 1675
- mother put her own child in a fire and put hot coals on it
- the maid came and removed the child, but only after it had burnt to death
- the mother confessed herself to the maid
- but the mother was cleared by the jury who judged her to be not of a 'sound mind'/insane
- found not guilty
5TH April 1676
- claimed her child was still-born
- ground too hard to bury it, threw it in a pond instead
- found guilty
