Ghoul memiliki wajah agak buruk rupa, terlihat seperti ogre dan kelihatannya berlendir. Mereka biasanya hidup di loteng atau lumbung rumah para penyihir. Biasanya mereka memakan laba-laba atau ngengat, serangga-serangga yang mudah ditemukan di tempat dia tinggal.
Walau ghoul ini tidak memakan manusia, tetap saja mengganggu jika mereka ada di rumah kalian, dan melempar benda-benda yang ada di sekitar mereka. Tapi, sebenarnya kecerdasan mereka rendah.
Karena ghoul berisik, beberapa keluarga penyihir yang rumahnya terinfestasi ghoul biasanya akan meminta bantuan Departemen Sihir untuk menyingkirkan ghoul dari rumah mereka.
Departemen Sihir mempunyai divisi sendiri untuk menangani hal ini yaitu namanya "Ghoul Task Force" yang berarti merupakan bagian dari Departement of the Regulation and Controo of Magical Creature. Divisi ini lebih fokusnya lagi diperuntukkan untuk menyingkirkan Ghoul dari rumah yang sudah pindah tangan ke para muggle.
