Diricawl adalah burung gemuk berbulu halus. Walau punya sayap, burung ini tidak bisa terbang. Burung ini berasal dari Republik Mauritius, sebuah negara di Afrika Timur yang berupa sebuah pulau letaknya di Samudra Hindia.
Diricawl ini mempunyai kemampuan untuk menghilang sesuka hati mereka saat merasakan ada bahaya. Mereka menghilang meninggalkan kepulan bulu-bulunya dan akan muncul di tempat lain.
Muggle tahu akan keberadaan burung ini. Tapi mereka menamai burung ini dengan nama "Dodo". Para muggle percaya bahwa burung ini telah punah karena ulah mereka sendiri, yaitu perburuan. Mereka memburu Diricawl utk dimakan ampelanya.
Konfederasi penyihir internasional memutuskan untuk tidak memberi tahu hal ini kepada para muggle karena merasa itu merupakan hal terbaik. Punahnya burung Dodo meningkatkan kesadaran para muggle akan bahaya nya perburuan besar besaran yang dilakukan semena mena tanpa memikirkan makhluk hidup lainnya, terutama makhluk yang mereka buru.
