People should read the whole 8chan thread before going hysterical over this:
archive.is/JpkKq

anon: I want proofs. You're not using tor for example which raises questions.

wiki: Tor is compromised, exit nodes are owned by intelligence agencies.

anon: This is suspicious because it misses a detail of how Tor works. If you use 8chan's onion address you won't be travelling through an exit node to the clearnet. Unless 8chan's own directory server has been compromised too.

(He's right.)

I've studied many, many cases of how criminals get caught in spite of using Tor... and with isolated exceptions, it's always an OPSEC mistake-- shoulder snooping, leaking a username to clearnet, leaving identifiable details in a photo, an end-to-end-timing match via logs on public Wi-Fi.

I believe there is a disinfo campaign against using Tor, for precisely the reason that LE has difficulty with it unless you make a mistake.

A compromised exit node can view any __unencrypted traffic__ passing through it (i.e. non-SSL), but the whole point of onion routing is that each node is only aware of the node-hop before it. The __origin__ is still cryptographically protected. LE must compromise the hops __in-between__ the origin and the exit, to determine the origin. As routes are randomized and NOT all are controlled by them, this is unreliable at best.

The consensus in darkweb criminal communities (go look for yourself) is that Tor is safer than not-Tor, and your odds of getting caught if you use it _properly_ are very low.

I have doubts re: deepdotweb. They were fallaciously claiming Comcast threatened to shutdown users' internet for using Tor, based on their ToS, citing phone calls with angry reps... which was completely disproven when Com-cast VP Jason Livingood says HE even uses Tor, and they have no problem with customers using it

http://corporate.comcast.com/com cast-voices/setting-the-record-straight-on-tor

Ultimately it's a calculated risk. Few things are guaranteed in life.

But the "wiki" user's info is nothing new, and nothing to go hysterical over imo.
