Blast-Ended Skrewt adalah salah satu contoh makhluk hitam. Makhluk ini sering berkeliaran di Hogwarts.
Awalnya, Blast-Ended Skrewt adalah makhluk hybrid yang dibiakkan oleh Rubeus Hagrid pada musim gugur tahun 1994. Cara mengembangbiakkannya yaitu dengan cara menyilangkan Manticore dan Fire Crabs.
Skrewts yang baru saja dibiakkan terlihat seperti lobster tak bercangkang yang pucat dan kurus. Panjangnya sekitar 6 inci dan berbau seperti ikan busuk. Screwts jantan punya alat penyengat sementara yang betina punya alat penghisap untuk menghisap darah.
Selain itu, makhluk ini juga tidak berhibernasi pada musim dingin. Makhluk ini akan menjadi berbahaya saat mencapai ukuran 10 inci, bahkan levelnya bisa mematikan. Mereka akan terlihat seperti kalajengking raksasa dengan alat penyengat besar menggantung di bagian belakangnya. Kulit (atau cangkang) mereka dapat memantulkan sebagian besar mantra. Selain itu, Screwts bisa mengeluarkan ledakan untuk menyerang.
Satu-satunya kelemahan mereka adalah bagian bawah tubuhnya, dimana disana kulit mereka tidak terlalu tebal. Saking ganasnya, mereka juga bisa saling memakan satu sama lain.
