At our feet lie wooden shards of memories, bits of yesterday
But in the midst of tragedy, I saw a beam of light

Our windows may be shattered

Roller coasters and arcades, swept out to the sea
Summer main streets and parades, now rivers and downed trees
And as the rescue boats sailed by, I got smiles from my friends and neighbors
Sorry Sandy but we’re healthy; you’ve only made us braver.

When the cops came and we ran;
Or those nights we watched the moonlit waves
Come crashing freely on the sand
Those sights and sounds and smells are vivid,

We’re the best community I know, and even though it’s grey,
