Off The Boat We Jump
Her eye lids started to droop, she was almost asleep. He nudged her left arm, Her eye lids retracted, He was not going to let her go so soon.
She gradually turned her head towards Him and they locked eyes, Their whole life together seemed to reflect in each others organ of sight, and they both could see it.
He smiled...
And She smiled back.
He knew that it was time
And She knew it too, but she was not ready.
He positioned his hand between their fleeting bodies and his hand laid open, Tears rolled down Her checks, She placed Her hand in His and He griped it as if it was the last sense of touch He was going to receive.
They both turned their heads to big screen at the end of the bed, She looked at the chat scrolling by.
Though her vision was too blurry to read it she knew the words they spoke.
She tried to compile a sentence, but found it too difficult.
As she looked at herself on the screen with tears still running down her face, she said...
"Goodbye"
He nodded to the nurse, and the nurse switched off the live stream, then preceded to hook them off life support.
They turned to one another once again.
Both of them inspected each others face, He looked at all her wrinkles, while at the same time never loving her less. She looked at his grey hair, thinking to herself... "He could really use a haircut"
She chuckles at the thought.
He sees her still crying, and He could see the anxiety in her eyes. He tells Her to look into the darkness at the end of the bed, and count to 3.
She opens her mouth...
"1"
"2"
"3"
She turns her head to Him,
but He's gone
Sadness fills Her mind, Her body, and Her soul.
She grips His hand tighter, refusing to let go.
She opens her mouth and words start to come out
"I'll see you soon"
It is time,
and She knows it,
and She's ready.
Her mind takes her though all the years she's endured, recollecting all the good times, and all the bad ones.
Adria's eyes close for the final time, Her world becomes darkness, all the lights have been extinguished.
Yet...
in the center of the shadows...
there lies something that does not belong in darkness...
A Light.
