blood functions:
1. transportation of fluid in and throughout the body
2. delivers vital molecules needed throughout the body
3. route for immunity - delivers immunity

Granulocytes:
-neutrophils: phagocytes that protect the body from microorganisms
-eosinophil: weak phagocytes
-basophils: releases histamine and heparin
Agranulocytes:
-monocytes: largest leukocytes (macrophages)
-lymphocytes: protects body from infection by creating immunity

Blood clotting:
1. injury occurs
2. damaged cells release clotting factors into plasma
3. the platelets become sticky and start sticking together near the injury
4. platelets go through a series of steps to grow stronger and create a strong net to stop the blood

ABO system:
A- contains A antigen, B antibody, 41% of the population
B- contains B antigen, A antibody, 12% of the population
AB- contains both A and B antigen, no antibody, 5% of the population, universal recipient
O- contains no antigen, both antibodies, universal donor, 43% of the population

Rh negative in childbirth:
1. Rh negative woman becomes pregnant with Rh positive fetus
2. Rh positive factor cells enter the woman's bloodstream
3. The body creates antibodies (+) to fight the Rh positive blood cells
4. In the next Rh positive pregnancy, those antibodies will attack the red blood cells

Path flow of blood:
1. De- oxygenated blood enters the right atria through the vena cava
2. it is pumped through the tricuspid valve to the right ventricle
3. ventricles contract and blood is forced out into the pulmonary semilunar valve to the pulmonary artery
4. the blood goes to the lungs and removes CO2 and gets O2
5. The oxygenated blood comes in through the pulmonary vein into Left atria
6. It passes through the bicuspid valve into left ventricle
7. ventricles contract and blood is forced into the aortic semilunar valve to the aorta
8. Blood goes throughout the body and the cycle repeats
