भारत सरकार लोगों को कैशलेस अर्थव्यवस्था की तरफ प्रोत्साहित कर रही है। कैशलैस अर्थव्यवस्था को तभी पाया जा सकता है जब अर्थव्यस्था में धीरे-धीरे कैश को कम किया जाए और सभी लेन-देन इलेक्ट्रॉनिक माध्यम जैसे प्रत्यक्ष डेबिट, क्रेडिट और डेबिट कार्ड, इलेक्ट्रॉनिक क्लिरिंग और भुगतान प्रणाली जैसे तत्काल भुगतान सेवा (आईएमपीएस), राष्ट्रीय इलेक्ट्रॉनिक फंड ट्रांसफर (एनईएफटी) और रियल टाइम ग्रॉस सेटलमेंट (आरटीजीएस) से इस्तेमाल किया जाए।

देश में कैशलैस अर्थव्यवस्था से नागरिकों को होने वाले लाभ:

वस्तु और सेवाओं को प्राप्त करने के लिए नकदी ले जाने की जरुरत नहीं है। करंसी नोट लेकर चलने और मेहनत से कमाए गए धन को खोने से बचा जा सकता है।
खुले पैसे न होने की स्थिति में अतिरिक्त कीमत देने से बच सकते हैं जिसका परिणाम यह है कि वास्तविक बकाया राशि का ही भुगतान किया जा सकता है। लेन-देन की कीमत कम हो सकती है।
खरीदारी में सुविधा, बिलों का भुगतान और वित्तीय लेन-देन को घर, ऑफिस या कहीं से भी अपने स्मार्ट फोन के जरिए किया जा सकता है।
यह वित्तीय लेन-देन को प्रमाणित करता है और समुचित रिकार्ड बनाए रखता है। सभी आर्थिक लेन-देन इलेक्ट्रॉनिक माध्यमों से हो तो यह असंभव है कि काला बाजारी हो और भूमिगत अर्थव्यवस्था बने और राष्ट्रीय अर्थव्यवस्था को नुकसान पहुंचे।
डिजीटल भुगतान परोक्ष रुप से करंसी नोट की प्रिटिंग और आवागमन की जरुरत के खर्च को कम करता है।
इलेक्ट्रॉनिक लेन-देन भ्रष्टाचार से लड़ने और काले धन के प्रवाह को कम करने में मदद करता है। इस तरह देश के आर्थिंक विकास में मदद करता है।
कैश का कम इस्तेमाल इसके अवैध होने को रोकता है और बेहतर कर (टैक्स) अनुपालन करता है।
कर आधार में वृद्धि का परिणाम यह होगा कि राज्य के लिए ज्यादा राजस्व और सरकार के जन कल्याण कार्यक्रमों के फंड के लिए ज्यादा धनराशि उपलब्ध होगी।
भारतीय रेलवे अपने ग्राहकों को आईआरसीटीसी की वेबसाइट पर इंटरनेट टिकटिंग के जरिए आरक्षित टिकटें बुक करने के लिए कैशलेस टिकटिंग का विकल्प प्रस्तुत करती है। ट्रेन के आरक्षण का 58 प्रतिशत से ज्यादा ई-टिकटिंग के जरिए ही बुक होता है । आईआरसीटीसी पश्चिम और केंद्रीय रेलवे की सबअर्बन ट्रेन सेवाओं के लिए सीजन टिकट खरीदने का विकल्प भी उपलब्ध कराती है । मोबाइल फोन के जरिए अनारक्षित टिकटें खरीदने की सुविधा दिल्ली, मुबंई, चेन्नई, कोलकाता और सिकंदराबाद में उपलब्ध है । ऑटोमेटिक टिकट वेंडिंग मशीन जिनसे स्मार्ट कार्ड के इस्तेमाल से अनारक्षित टिकटों का वितरण होता है सीआर, ईआर, ईसीओआर, एनआर, एनईआर, एनडब्ल्यूआर, एसआर, एससीआर, एसईआर, एसईसीआर, एसडब्ल्यूआर, डब्ल्यूआर और डब्ल्यूसीआर के 1000 स्थानों पर उपलब्ध कराए गए हैं। स्मार्ट कार्ड स्टेशनों पर नामित काउंटर से खरीदे जा सकते हैं।

Government of India is encouraging people to move towards a Cashless Economy. Cashless Economy can be achieved when the use of cash within the economy is gradually reduced and all transactions are made through electronic channels such as direct debit, credit and debit cards, electronic clearing, and payment systems such as Immediate Payment Service (IMPS), National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT) and Real Time Gross settlement (RTGS) in India.

The advantages to citizens of a country in a Cashless Economy are:

Cash need not be carried to avail goods and services. Risk of carrying currency notes and loss of hard earned money can be avoided.
Extra payment on account of non-availability of change is avoided resulting in payment of what is actually due to be paid. Transaction costs are likely to be reduced.
Convenience in shopping, payment of bills and scheduling of financial transactions can all be managed from home, office or wherever you are with a smart phone.
It helps to authenticate financial transactions and maintain proper record. A record of all economic transactions through electronic means makes it almost impossible to sustain black market or underground economies that often proves damaging to national economy.
Digital payments indirectly reduces expenditure in reducing need for printing of currency notes and its transportation.
Electronic transactions helps in curbing corruption and black money flow, thereby helping in economic growth of the country.
Lesser use of cash checks the grey economy, prevents money laundering and better tax compliance.
Increased tax base would result in greater revenue for state and greater amount available to fund the welfare programmes of the Government.
Indian Railways offers cashless ticketing option to its customer through internet ticketing on IRCTC website for booking reserved tickets. More than 58% of the train accommodation is reserved through e-ticketing. IRCTC also provides option for purchasing Season Tickets for suburban train services on Western and central Railways. Facility for purchasing unreserved tickets through mobile phone is available at DELHI, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Secunderabad. Further Automatic Ticket Vending Machines dispensing unreserved tickets using smart cards are provided at over 1000 locations over CR, ER, ECoR, NR, NER, NWR, SR, SCR, SER, SECR, SWR, WR and WCR. The Smart Cards can be purchased from nominated counters at the stations.
