Phoenix—identik dengan burung api yang ketika mati (dengan cara terbakar) akan lahir kembali dari abunya. Phoenix adalah burung legendaris yang bersal dari mitologi Yunani, Romawi dan Mesir Kuno. Dapat hidup selama 500 tahun lalu mati dan terlahir kembali.
Memiliki bulu berwarna merah tua keemasan dan berukuran sebesar burung elang. Tepat sebelum mati, burung Phoenix membuat sarang dari tumbuhan herbal di antaranya kayu manis dan kemenyan untuk dibakarnya lalu menjadi abu bersamaan dengan phoenix mati terbakar. Setelah itu lahir yang baru.
Phoenix memiliki dua bulu panjang di bagian puncak kepalanya dan sering digambarkan bermahkota Osiris. Dalam mitologi Mesir Kuno, Phoenix disebut juga Bennu. Bennu diperkirakan berasal dari kata 'weben' yang berarti 'bangkit' atau 'bersinar'. Phoenix dikenal kebal terhadap semua kutukan, termasuk yang mematikan. Selain itu phoenix juga dapat berapparate seperti penyihir. Bulu phoenix dipakai untuk inti tongkat sihir, air matanya untuk mengobati luka.
