today we are going to talk about president Harding and some of the scandals and society changes in the 1920
had a lot of friends In Ohio
decides to take some of them to Washington with him
you be surprised at how many presidents do that
Harding was a very typical republican and he basically said its laissez fair and you were ready for that you didn't mind that the government took control over industry during the war and you didn't mind that the government controlled wages for the war and when the war is finally over you are ready for the government to get out and leave business alone again
and Harding continue to say I'm laissez fair you are ready for the government to reduce its spending but now that the war is over your ready for them to cut back and again Harding your guy because that's one of the things he campaign for the federal spending so your pretty happy with Harding and you think things are ok with Harding and you think he's going to do a very good job in these day in age ladies and gentlemen one of the most important economic members of the government was the secretary of the treasurer isn't nearly as important as it used to be but still some what important as it used to be but in this day in age they were pretty wise in a lot of ways he knew that he didn't know about the economy to be making wise choices so he decided I'm to have on the people in government to help me with that he wanted someone who understood business and money so ladies and gentlemen he picked the 6th richest man in the us to become the secretary of treasury a fella named Andrew Melony hes a banker but as harding argued someone who understands money would probably be wealthy and only they would be able to step in to this job and do what we want to step in and get govt on track where its suppose to be melon said its really simple the first thing we have to do is get rid of all war time regulations on business don't need those anymore theyre in the way lets just repel all the laws we passed to run industry during the war and secondly we have to give industry a huge tax cut we talked about and it has every year we have done this it works for business we just went through a major industrial innovation till the civil war in the 1900 we amazed the world
