. On page 9, the author writes, “ helps the cat out of the bag when she could’ve  just left him there.” This shows that Beetle is caring because she helped the cat. Any person that was in this situation could’ve had left him there but she had the courage to help. In general people who are caring try to help others when they see them struggling or in need of help,and that was exactly what Beetle did  when she saw the cat inside the bag. Additionally, she is smart  when she laid on the pile of dung heap for warmth. On page 1, the author writes, “ But the girl noticed and, on that frosty night, burrowed deep into the warm, rotting muck, heedless of the smell.”  This shows that Beetle is smart because she slept on the pile of animal poop to get warmth and not all people are smart enough to know that. Usually,  smart people try to find a solution to something that they want to solve. They don’t just stand there waiting for someone else to do things for them they take action and that’s what Beetle did. In Karen Chushman’s story, Beetle is an intelligent and kind hearted person.
