Ovaj transfer je posebno zanimljiv jer njime Real krši usmeni dogovor s gradskim rivalom. Theo, lijevi bek, na posudbi je u Alavesu i napustit će Atletico bez ijedne odigrane minute u prvenstvu za taj klub. U Atleticu ostavlja starijeg brata Lucasa.
Ovaj transfer šokirao je i Barcelonu jer su Katalonci bili zainteresirani za njega kako bi pojačali konkurenciju u obrani. Katalonski mediji tvrdili su da je Barcelona prvi izbor francuskom nogometašu, Theov agent potvrdio je kako je klub s Camp Noua ponudio također 24 milijuna eura, ali je francuski branič izabrao Real i danas odradio liječnički pregled.
