Emerald Reins is a 15 year old girl whose parents sent her to a "private school" while they went to Europe over the summer. When she gets there she is shocked to find that it is no private school, but indeed a witchcraft academy called Ravenhaust Academy for the Gifted. She is roomed with a girl named Kya Alkmene who knew her secret since she was 13 but didn't know how to use it. They have 1 class a day and everything is just fine. Emmy suspects something is going on when she sees the head mistress very upset when talking to a handsome young man. The young man smiles wickedly and disappears. The head mistress is in a panic and locks down the school just as Emmys father is coming and he is killed and the man puts him in Emmy's room. Emmy finds him and calls the head mistress and she realizes this young man is going to keep messing with them until he gets what he wants. He wants the heart of Begginhazia which powers all of their magic. They can't let him have it. He guides Emmy outside using mind control and uses her to get the heart and then he makes love to her and she falls under his spell. But what he doesn't know is that Emmy is pregnant and she gives birth and sends the child to the headmaster. The child named Diamond Reins, has magical powers unlike anything ever seen. She holds the key to destroying her father and getting the heart back to restore the magic of Ravenhaust.
