การแบ่งส่วนการตลาด แบ่งได้ 3 วิธี
1) แบ่งโดยใช้เกณฑ์ประเทศที่เข้าไปทำตลาด (by country)

2) แบ่งตามเกณฑ์ที่ใช้ในระดับสากล (by global segment)
เป็นการแบ่งส่วนตลาดโดยใช้เกณฑ์มาตรฐานที่กำหนดขึ้นโดยองค์กรระดับสากล เช่น แบ่งตามระดับอำนาจในการซื้อของผู้บริโภค
3) แบบผสมผสานหลายหลักเกณฑ์(by multiple criteria)
รูปแบบที่เป็นมาตรฐานและการปรับเปลี่ยนโปรแกรมการตลาดระหว่างประเทศ
1) การปรับเปลี่ยน (adaptation)
2) รูปแบบที่เป็นมาตรฐาน (standardization)
Standardization ข้อได้เปรียบจากการกำหนดโปรแกรมหรือแผนการตลาดให้เป็นรูปแบบมาตรฐานเดียวมีหลายประการ
1) ความได้เปรียบด้านต้นทุน
2) เป็นการพัฒนาระบบการวางแผนและการควบคุม
3) เพิ่มระดับความสามารถในการสร้างภาพลักษณ์ให้เป็นตราผลิตภัณฑ์ระดับโลก
Adaptation ข้อได้เปรียบ
1) สามารถเข้าถึงความต้องการของลูกค้าท้องถิ่นให้ถูกต้องแม่นยำขึ้น
2) เป็นการสร้างความแตกต่างให้เหมาะสมกับสภาพการใช้งาน
3) การดำเนินงานที่สอดคล้องกับกฎระเบียบข้อบังคับระดับท้องถิ่นและรัฐบาล
4) สร้างโอกาสที่จะประสบความสำเร็จในการแข่งขันกับธุรกิจท้องถิ่นและบริษัทข้ามชาติอื่นๆ
รูปแบบการทำธุรกิจพาณิชย์อิเล็กทรอนิกส์สามารถดำเนินการได้หลากหลายโดยแบ่งออกได้เป็น 4 ประเภทหลัก

S Segmenration คือการแบ่งส่วนตลาด เช่น แบ่งตามอายุ เพศ หรือรายได้
T Targeting คือการเลือกกลุ่มเป้าหมายตามการแบ่งส่วนตลาดที่เราทำไว้
P Positioning คือการสร้างความแตกต่างและโดนใจกลุ่มเป้าหมายโดดเด่นกว่าคู่แข่ง
