Organic - carbon compounds
Aldehydes - an organic compound containing the group —CHO, formed by the oxidation of alcohols.
Hydrocarbon - a compound of hydrogen and carbon, such as any of those that are the chief components of petroleum and natural gas.
Ketones - is an organic compound with the structure RC(=O)R', where R and R' can be a variety of carbon-containing substituents.
Saturated - one in which the atoms are linked by single bonds.
Ether - an organic compound that contains two alkyl or aryl groups by an oxygen atom.
Unsaturated - having carbon–carbon double or triple bonds and therefore not containing the greatest possible number of hydrogen atoms for the number of carbons.
Organic acid - an organic compound with acidic properties.
Covalent bond - a chemical bond that involves the sharing of electron pairs between atoms.
Esters - an organic compound made by replacing the hydrogen of an acid by an alkyl or other organic group.
Molecular formula - a formula giving the number of atoms of each of the elements present in one molecule of a specific compound.
Amines - an organic compound derived from ammonia by replacement of one or more hydrogen atoms by organic groups.
Structural formula - a formula that shows the arrangement of atoms in the molecule of a compound.
Amides - a compound derived from ammonia by replacement of a hydrogen atom by a metal, containing the anion NH2–.
Alkanes - an acyclic saturated hydrocarbon.
Amino acids - An organic compound containing an amino group (NH2), a carboxylic acid group (COOH), and any of various side groups
Alkenes - an unsaturated hydrocarbon that contains at least one carbon–carbon double bond.
Combustion - any process in which a substance combines with oxygen to produce heat and light.
Alkynes - an unsaturated hydrocarbon containing at least one carbon—carbon triple bond.
Substitution reaction - a chemical reaction during which one functional group in a chemical compound is replaced by another functional group.
Benzene - an important organic chemical compound with the chemical formula C6H6.
Addition reaction - an organic reaction where two or more molecules combine to form a larger one
Isomers - re molecules with the same molecular formula (i.e. the same number of atoms of each element), but different structural or spatial arrangements of the atoms
Esterification - the general name for a chemical reaction in which two reactants (typically an alcohol and an acid) form an ester as the reaction product.
Functional group - a portion of a molecule that is a recognizable/classified group of bound atoms.
Saponification - the alkaline hydrolysis of the fatty acid esters.
Alcohol - ny organic compound in which the hydroxyl functional group (–OH) is bound to a saturated carbon atom.
Fermentation - a chemical change with effervescence.
Polymerization - a process of reacting monomer molecules together in a chemical reaction to form polymer chains or three-dimensional networks.
Addition polymerization - a polymer which is formed by an addition reaction, where many monomers bond together via rearrangement of bonds without the loss of any atom or molecule under specific conditions of heat, pressure, and/or the presence of a catalyst.
Condensation polymerization - any kind of polymers formed through a condensation reaction—where molecules join together—losing small molecules as byproducts such as water or methanol, as opposed to addition polymers which involve the reaction of unsaturated monomers.
