Alright, here's the story I saved. http://forums.gunboards.com/showthread.php?669506-The-multi-capture-Type-38-reposted-to-proper-board&p=5975802#post5975802
Short story without all the speculation is this:
>Old guy renting house out on our country property
>We go up there to improve upon the structures all around there and to do our shooting
>I am generally recognized by people that know me as the firearms expert and """gunsmith""" that can fix rifles and find information on them.
>guy that's renting the house asks me to take a look at this rifle his father brought back from WWII
>"I don't know what it is man, it looks like it's Nazi or communist or what, man,"
>What he takes out and shows me is a debilitated and completely rusted shut Arisaka
>Still excited because this is still something that I haven't come across or worked with
>He tells me the rifle had been left in a shed for over 70 years, oooh boy.
>I bring it back home and begin to get to work
>As soon as I open up the stock, LIVE cockroaches spill out of the gun all over the newspaper
>MFW
>After about a fourth of a can of oil I finally got it to unfreeze and work my magic; taking apart the whole rifle to the last bolt, using soft brushes and picks to get the gunk out, cleaning the wood, and barrel cleaning
>After three, one hour cleaning sessions, I get the rifle working like clockwork, moving nice, looking good, and most importantly, safe to shoot.
>While I was doing all this over the course of a month I get word that the guy hadn't been paying rent.
>We go to the house and the whole thing is completely trashed, garbage all over the place, carpet torn up, you name it.
>Guy had completely disappeared off the face of the Earth
>I guess I own the rifle now
I'm kinda happy he had disappeared because that would have meant that I would have given the rifle back, and seeing how it had been treated previously, I don't think I would want to think about it
