this however, was not enough to prevent Ashy from digging holes. Days later, Ashy not only dug another hole and escaped but Honey was also digging with him. This was suprising because I thought it was Ashy's problem.
I began to wonder why he acting this way. Is it because he was tired of the backyard? Or was it because he wanted to be free from human control? At that moment, I never figured out the reason but it was until a few weeks later that I really understood why.

Summer was approaching and we had decided to go on a cruise for a week.During that time, Ashy was working on a hole right underneath our porch. We didn't think much of it because he coudn;t escape anywhere with it so we left it alone. When the time came for us to board the crusie, we gave Honey and Ashy back to their original owners for the time being.

Our rabbits held a secret, a rather unfortunate one given the circumstances. When we got back from the cruise, we discovered 2 baby bunnies roaming around the yard. This was when I finally realized that Ashy was not a male but a female. She was preparing to make a nest for her young! Looking in Ashy's hole beneath the porch, it was filled with grass and other unknown things and deep inside, there was another baby bunny.

Unfortunately, two of the bunnies were severely malnutrition because they were separated from their mother for a whole week. One of the baby bunnies were golden just like Honey, the other two were gray just like Ashy. Despite our efforts to feed them, both of the gray ones died. Thankfully, the golden one lived and became healthy. We named him Simba.

When we brought Ashy and Honey back to our backyard, we introduced them to their own babies. Ashy and Honey's reaction to the babies was defintiely unexpected. Because theywere separated, Ashy failed to recognize her own children and did not react at all. Simba however, did know that Ashy was his mother and followed her around. Ashy did not seem to care about Simba and went off to do her own things.
