Hacker menganalisa kelemahan suatu sistem dan butuh pemahaman tentang sistem informasi. Cracker membuat suatu program yang menggunakan kelemahan suatu sistem untuk merusak/membobol sistem tersebut agar data dapat diambil. Biasanya tidak ada Cracker yang baik. Hacker ada yang baik ada juga yg menggunakan keahliannya untuk kepentingan dirinya.

1. Perbedaan Hacker dan Cracker :
- Hacker bisa saja memiliki ide baik, tapi cracker tifak.
- Hacker cenderung rela berbagi ilmu dengan yang lain, sedangkan cracker cenderung pelit
- Hacker belum tentu merugikan, tapi cracker sudah pasti merugikan.
2. Tokoh Cracker :
Jonathan James. Ia pernah memasang backdoor ke server Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) milik Amerika yang merupakan badan pertahanan seperti nuklir. Ia juga pernah meretas sistem komputer NASA dan mencuri software seharga $1,7 juta.
3. Tokoh Hacker
Stephen Wozniak. Pria paruh baya ini pernah membobol jaringan telepon yang memungkinkannya menelepon jarak jauh tanpa membayar sedikitpun dan tanpa batas waktu.
