-For an open-ended question whether must be used. The word "if" is used to designate a specific condition, not for an open-ended question (Ex: Since it had been snowing through the night, the students wondered if school would be cancelled).
-singular verb is "has" and plural verb is "have".
-"as well as" is an additive phrase, not part of the subject. If the subject is singular then we use the singular verb.
-combines is a singular verb and combine being a plural verb.
-I'm afraid of that man : : The man looks scary. But, I'm afraid for that man : : You don't want anything bad to happen to the man. You like him.
-enjoy is a plural verb and enjoys is a singular verb.
-Statistics, as a subject, is constructed as singular, so we use the singular verb with this as the subject.
-In a "either A or B" construction the verb must agree with the second term, the term closer to the verb. If the second term is singular then we use the singular verb.
-Prepositional phrase: A phrase consisting of a preposition and an object, sometimes with other modifiers, that itself modifies another word or phrase.
-Predicate: The part of the sentence that contains the verb (and any words that modify or govern the verb) and that expresses what the subject is doing.
-subordinate or dependent clause depends on the principal clause.
-Adverbial nouns: A noun used as an adverb; it often describes amount, time, distance or some other measure.
-The passive voice is less direct because it doesn't specify who's doing the action. It is neutral in tone.
-anomalous: not normal.
-prodigal: wastefully extravagant (spending a lot of resources wastefully without any restrictions or conditions).
-qualify: to make less severe, to limit.
-demur: to object or show reluctance.
-egregious: standing out in a negative way.
-ingenuous: innocent.
-impertinent: being disrespectful.
-
