debate is an educational experience.
education is the purpose of debate, and if you don't
have education, you have destroyed the purpose of debate
example: you are making up the rules of parli based on what you think is fair
they are doing the resolution, and an extra thing.
this is unfair because unpredictability. You cannot predict what they are saying and they can do whatever they want
structure:
A. interpretation: the rule that you are saying. Which rule you think would make the debate fair has been broken.
B. violation: What have your opponents done that violates the interpretation?
C. Standards: Why should we prefer your interpretation?
ex: Ground Scheme:
they have way more arguments than us. One sided.
Time Skew: You wasted your entire 1st speech and they have so many arguments. They basically ignored your speech and came up and said whatever they wanted.
Predictability: The argument was not predictable, and it is not educational.
Breadth: No variety. Variety is the key to education.
Depth: No clash.
Infinite Regression: If you allow the opponents to do this in this round, there is nothing stopping them from doing the same thing in future rounds.
(Make sure to explain why education is the key to fairness and a good, structured debate)
D. Voter Issues
Education and Fairness are A priority. Before you look at things like human rights, you have to weigh these. All of these other impacts are not really happening. Therefore, theoretically, you can ignore everything and weigh the entire debate on just education and fairness.
