Marie listened for the door, waiting for her best friend Cara, to show any second now. Inside her stomach churned from nervousness. She wasn't at all prepared to take care of a baby especially a newborn! She paced to the door hearing it ring and as she reached to open it, she was greeted by a loud wailing.
"Sorry," Cara's eyes flitted upwards to meet her own. "He's hungry."
She stepped away making space for them to enter. With each move, her eyes followed the baby being carried in Cara's arms. Soon that was going to be her carrying that little baby but still, that thought felt so far away as if it was never going to happen.
"Are you alright?" Cara asked her while breastfeeding her son. Marie was taken aback by it all, as an only child she's never seen a mother breastfeeding her child first hand. She understood that it was natural and a part of human life, but at the same time, it all felt so new.
Marie sat across Cara at the kitchen table, a soft smile spread on her lips. "Just nervous," She said, her eyes stuck on her hands, paying attention to her pale fingers fiddling with each other. "I don't know how to take care of a baby."
Cara's long blonde hair was tangled into a bun the strands fighting to come undone. Her once lively blue eyes were encased with purple bags. She didn't even want to think about the short hours she slept.
