The cold atmosphere made it hard for me to sit still in the car. Even with the windows rolled up and the heater on full blast, I was still freezing. I pulled my jacket closer to my body and leaned my head against the fogged up window in my dad's BMW. I sighed, hating the unfortunate events that have unfolded in my short seventeen years of life.

I couldn't wait until I got to my mother's house. My mom was a famous designer who made clothes for celebrities. Her brand, ''Lovely Avenue'' was a hit. As my dad drove his way to my mother's gate, excitement filled me. My mom was the person I love the most. When my dad parked in the parking lot, I jumped out of the car and stretched. As I was stretching, I looked into my mom's door and see her running towards me with that warm smile on her pretty face.

"Vanessa!'' My mom yelled while running towards me, engulfing me in a bear hug. I almost fell from the impact, I laughed when she smothered my face with kisses, and tears streamed down her face. Her perfume filled my nose and I instantly relaxed. I sighed in contentment. I knew for sure my mother would never betray me. She would never give up on me. This is the first time I smiled for days. I felt so safe in her arms.

"You've grown so much! I missed you!' Mom said as she keeps hugging me.

"Mom, you saw me two weeks ago.'' I chuckled and sighed again. "I missed you too," I said seriously. My dad cleared his throat and I scowled. What did he want this time? I'll be honest, I love my dad but I can never forgive him for cheating on my mom.

I turned around and glared at my dad, but he just smiled at me. I narrowed my eyes at him and he just turned to smile at my mother.

''Ella, you look great as always," My father greeted. It was true, my mother looked gorgeous. She's forty-two and she looked like she was still in her early thirties. Her long straight, dark brown hair was pulled into a tight ponytail and she wore a black dress that hugged her body nicely. Her high cheekbones complimented her black eyes and her red lipstick made her look professional, yet lovely. I looked just like her, except my hair was slightly curled at the bottom making it look like I've curled it with a curling iron and my eyes were blue, just like my father's own. I would be lying if I said I wasn't good looking. It ran in my blood and most of my family members were models.

''Thank you, George, I've got a meeting in an hour,'' she groaned and looked at her watch.

''I hate to leave Vanessa because she just arrived, but duty calls.'' She looked at me apologetically.

''I'm sorry, I was hoping, I wasn't going to be busy today. I hope you don't mind because it's going to be held in the house.'' I looked over at the mansion my mom called home. It was beautiful, of course. She was filthy rich, but she didn't take it for granted. It was two stories high. Inside, there was twelve bedrooms, ten bathrooms, one huge kitchen, a dining room, a living area, a basement, an attic and finally a huge meeting room for when she has meetings for her job.

I shook my head and smiled at my mom. "Mom, this is your house. Stop freaking out, I understand.'' She smiled sweetly at me. I saw Anna, one my mom's coworker's daughter. I ran up to her, hugging her. She's been my best friend ever since Grade one. She had long black hair and she's gorgeous. She had a huge smile on her face that brightened up her whole face.

"Hey, AJ, how's it going?'' I asked smiling warmly to her. I call her AJ because her name is Anna Joseph and it's a nickname for her. Only I can call her AJ.

"I'm doing awesome! Can you believe it? I'm living in this huge mansion with you!'' She squealed holding on to me, squishing my shoulders.

"I know right?! I'm so happy! We can do stuff together now!!'' I jumped up and down in excitement.

''Anna, it's good to see you again!'' My dad said enthusiastically, interrupting my conversation. He looked at me with a serious look on his face. "Vanessa, can we talk?''

"There's nothing to talk about," I simply said, shrugging. "Mom, I'll see you inside,'' my mother looked concerned. Her hands were knotted together in front of her. She started twiddling her thumbs and she bit her lip. She did that often when she was deep in thought or when she was nervous. I started stalking off towards the main entrance of the house, while AJ followed me, rubbing my back soothingly.

"Vanessa Maria Angelica Bernardo,'' I froze in place when he said my whole name. My back was still facing him and I tensed up. AJ noticed and she stepped away from me. She knew that when I was tense, I was mad, and it isn't pretty when I'm mad, trust me.

"I expect you to understand. You're not a child anymore, Vanesa.'' My father's voice sounded angry. He was getting tired and impatient with me, which made me angrier.

''I understand. You love Sandra than your own daughter.'' I spat out and walked into the house without looking back. I was on the verge of crying again. How much tears can a girl hold? I was just a person and certainly couldn't handle more stuff anymore. I was only seventeen and I shouldn't be worrying about these things. I wished I was normal, I wished that my parents were still married, that my dad took care of his 'little girl'. But I wasn't normal, I was Vanessa Bernardo, I was far from normal.

Half an hour later, my dad finally left. He tried to say goodbye, but I ignored him. My mom left me some Strawberry ice cream before going to her meeting. AJ was here beside me comforting me. I wished my brother were here. He would've protected me and tickled me until I started smiling again.

My brother, Darryl was two years older than me and right now, he was at college all the way in Washington. I missed him terribly. He was working on getting a degree as a mechanic. My father wanted him to become a star baseball player, but Darryl didn't listen to him. It was his life after all. That's how I learned to stand up to my father. Darryl was my inspiration. His voice popped into my mind, "Hold up your head and smile. Stand up tall and remain strong. You are strong, you know why?'' I would smile at him, knowing what he would say next. "Because I'm your brother.'' We would laugh and he would tickle me until I was almost out of breath.

It was getting dark already, I could see the stars in the sky began to appear. I was sitting in my huge bedroom, looking out in the window to the backyard.

Someone knocked on my door, waking me up from my reverie.

"Come in," I called, still looking outside. The door opened slowly and my mom's head popped inside. She looked concerned and worried. She came in and obviously, she changed into something more comfortable. Her hair was in a messy bun and she wore a white loose shirt and gray sweats. "Honey, you okay?''

"Yeah, I'm just mad at dad." I sighed.

"You have every right to be, I can't believe he married that woman.'' My mother spat and shivered in disgust. "I can't believe he chose her over his own daughter."

I stayed quiet the whole time my mom ranted about the reasons she divorced him. "He was selfish, he wanted things to go his way. Gosh, when is he ever going to learn?" My mom just kept going on and on until I got up and started unpacking my clothes. She watched me curiously and started helping me unpack my stuff. It was silent and I appreciated it. I didn't feel like talking about my dad anymore. What's done is done.

By the time I was halfway done, my right shoulder started aching. I winced and started rolling it. I rubbed it, but it did nothing to help my burning shoulder. My mom noticed and she looked at me worried. She bit her lip, "What's wrong?'' She asked.

"Nothing big, it's been happening for a week." I rubbed my shoulder, wincing. I closed my eyes and counted to ten, trying to calm myself down. "It's probably because I'm tired.''

"I think your shifting." My mom said worriedly.

"Shifting?" I asked, confused.

"Did you forget already? You're a werewolf." Mom reminded me.

"Right.''

"I should get going, you have school tomorrow." My mom said as she's standing up and smiling at me.

"Yeah, I should sleep, goodnight mom." I yawned.

"Goodnight Nessa." She smiled at me once again and left my room as I fall asleep.
