FAP adalah suatu perilaku steretipik yang disebabkan oleh adanya stimulus yang spesifik. Contoh:
ü Saat anak burung baru menetas akan selalu membuka mulutnya, kemudian induknya akan menaruh makanan di dalam mulut anak burung tersebut.
ü Anak bebek yang baru menetas akan masuk ke dalam air. Perilaku ini telah “diprogram sebelumnya”, dengan kata lain, tidak diperlukan proses belajar.
ü Pada perilaku kawin pada burung merak (Pavo muticus), burung jantan akan menunjukkan keindahan warna ekor bulunya.
ü Induk burung tidak perlu belajar untuk memberi makan anaknya yang baru menetas, anak bebek tidak perlu belajar berenang.
