Today's top professional athletes often have salaries and bonuses in the range of 10s of millions of dollars.
Do these athletes deserve this much money?
i think athletes do deserve this amount of money because many athletes have families and they have to support them through the money they make and athletes need insurance in-case of an accident or brain injuries on the field or basket -ball court and athletes work for many people not just their sport and i'm sure at least the people who watch sports have heard of endorsements.
What are endorsements?
Endorsements are things athletes do to earn more money such as that Lebron James commercial for sprite that was and endorsement video.
What are endorsements used for?
Endorsements are also used to get athlete's name out in the air so other endorsement deals and other people pick up on him/her but then later leads to other deals such as food,shoes,new/old drinks or such as a t.v show guest such as ellen and etc.
How much do endorsements pay for?
Some athletes make more money off of endorsements then their sports career such as Lebron James he earned $42 million off of endorsements such as Nike,Coca-Cola,Mcdonald's, and like i mentioned before sprite and these are just the top four endorsements but he's only paid 17.8 million off his contract with Miami Heat and two times that still doesn't equal his amount with endorsement deals. now another basketball player is Kobe Bryant and he earned 34 million off his endorsement deals and only 27.9 million off his contract with the lakers.
How much do athletes make yearly?
Let's take Floyd Mayweather for an example he earned 85 million off of two fights in the past year which means he earn around 50 percent more than Pacquiao and enough to put him at the top of the world. And Pacquiao at his 62 million in two fights over the past year. The worlds 100 top highest paid athletes earning but all together is around 2.6 billion in total and out off this list there were only two females Maria Sharapova at number 26 and Li Na at number 81 they earned 26million total
What do athletes do on there offseason
‘’NBA players love to play basketball. NFL players love to play football. MLB players love to play baseball. And NHL players love to play…well, we think you get the point. Professional athletes love to take part in the sports that they play. It’s why they dedicate pretty much every aspect of their lives—from what they eat to how much they sleep to when they train—to their respective sports. And it’s why they don’t have a whole lot of time to do much else during their playing days But that doesn’t mean that pro athletes don’t do anything else besides play sports. While they do spend most of their waking hours focused on their careers, there are a lot of pro athletes who also have other interests. So during the spare time that they do have, they pursue those interests and get involved with things that you might not know such as painting or dance and music making which all takes some sort of money.’
How much are athletes houses?
All though athletes make a lot of money doesn’t mean that they won’t buy expensive things with their earnings such as the people listed down below have bought mansions that are really HUGE and cost them a boat load of money to get with the hard work of them being athletes they are able to purchase these items “There are a lot of homes owned by athletes that are currently being listed for sale. Athletes such as Deion Sanders, Jerry Rice and Adrian Beltre have all just recently made a killing on their investments. There are numerous reasons why athletes would want to sell off their homes. They may be looking to upgrade to something bigger and better, they may need to move because of a team switch, or maybe they are just tired of paying taxes on a home they have not inhabited in years. For example Shaquille O’neal just sold a home for ten bucks so he would no longer have to pay the taxman for the property”.
Fact : one of the top owned houses/ mansions is owned by The king himself Lebron James' Miami pad is currently on the market for $15 million
How do athletes treat themselves with the money?
Just because athletes earn a lot of money some decide to buy things that don't matter such as food and clothes but here we have an example of Floyd mayweather and his spendings,’’ In a recent interview with espn , Mayweather revealed he has $15 million worth of cars that he never drives just sitting in the garage of his Las Vegas home According to Towbin, Mayweather's fleet of cars includes 16 Rolls-Royces’’ obviously floyd makes unnecessary purchases such as him having 16 of the same car is ridiculous It's unclear how many of the cars Mayweather still owns, but the collection he showed to ESPN included two Ferraris, three Bugattis, a Lamborghini, and a McLaren. According to USA Today, the Bugattis alone can cost more than $2 million each and mayweather claims on of his ferraris cost around 3.2 million dollars
Reasons why the athletes shouldn't have this much money
For the sources of information we found is that the issue on overpaid athletes has been a popular discussion topic over the past few years. Several football players are paid around $20 million yearly. Which means there’s a lot of money and should get less. Everyone's reaction would be complaining and stating how unfair it is that they get all this money. In other words, if you ever are willing to pay 100$ to see a hockey game and bought sports gear from that team, you have to be willing for the athletes to be paid a lot as well. For example, the price for an average ticket is $110.20, while a premium ticket runs $346.96. Refreshments all cost more than the league average, with a hot dog running $5.50 and a soda costing $5. Meanwhile, it costs $75 to park your vehicle — the highest price of any team and almost $45 more than the league average.
Also, those tickets are way overpriced just to see a football game and having to pay an outrageous price for food and drinks to have throughout the whole game. We agree that athletes get paid an outrageous amount of money.
For the last source the information we found was about how a lot of athletes complain that they do not get enough money for how much work they do. We have our options and so does everyone else. We think that they make people pay a lot of money to go see them play but they get most of that money. For example, in the article Kennedy, Ray. "FOR THE ATHLETE, HOW MUCH IS TOO MUCH?" SI.com. N.p., n.d. Web. 08 May 2017 it says “no athlete is worth the money he is getting paid, including me Elvin Hayes pro basketball player. Athletes get way too much money for what they do.
