- Termasuk dalam spell defensive paling terkenal namun juga tersulit, mantra ini memungkinkan pemantranya memanggil spirit guardian (roh pelindung) atau biasanya disebut ‘Patronus’ sebagai perlindungan diri.
- Merupakan spell yang wajib dikuasai untuk menghadapi Dementor dan Lethifold.
- Untuk dapat menghasilkan patronus dalam bentuk sempurna, pemantra harus bisa memikirkan memori bahagia selama hidupnya. Semakin bahagia memori yang dapat diingat, semakin baik dan kuat patronus yang dihasilkan.
- Ada 2 Jenis patronus, yaitu Incorporeal dan Corporeal. Incorporeal adalah patronus yang tidak atau belum berbentuk hewan. Bentuknya hanya berupa kabut asap keperakan, sedangkan Corporeal yang sudah berbentuk hewan.
- Incorporeal terjadi karena dua hal juga; yang pertama karena patronus yang belum sempurna, kedua karena ingin menyembunyikan jati dirinya. Ahli Charm di abad ke 18, Profesor Catullus Spangle, mengemukakan bahwa patronus ini merepresentasikan sisi yang tersembunyi dan tidak diketahui namun dibutuhkan untuk personality dan karakteristik seseorang.
- Kegunaan lain patronus adalah sebagai alat komunikasi (penyampai pesan).
