They exist because it would help Muslims to live a good and responsible life according to Islam.
The pillars, better known in Islam as "acts of worship," are the message of God. They cannot be confused with the religion as a whole; rather they outline the minimal obligations required of a Muslim.
Bedouins:
+Nomadic Arab of the desert.
+Cultures developed in unhabitable desert zones, scrub zones, and edges of the empty quarters.
+Were herders and they lived in Kin-related clans.
+Live in northern Saudi-Arabia, western Iraq, in the Persian Gulfs.
+Survival depended on competition and support from their kin.
+Normally elected by councils, the Shaykahs, and were mostly men.
+Were leaders in past tribe in Mecca.
Muhammad:
+Is important cause was the final revelation of the Muslim faith in 7th century CE.
+Islam has revealed their faith through prophets.
+This message united Arabs by his revelations that were later written in Arabic and included in the Qur'an.
+Umma=a community of the faithful.
Problems of Succession:
+Caliph=The supreme religious and political leader of an Islamic state known as the "Caliphate".
+First 3 Caliphs - Umar, Uthman, and Abu Bakr.
+Chosen by a council of electors.
+Sunnis believe Muhammad's friend and advisor was Abu Bakr.
+Believed that Abu Bakr was the rightful Caliph of Muslims while Shias thought that his cousin and son
+Ali was chosen by Allah to rule.
Mecca and Medina:
+Mecca=city located in mountainous region along the Red Sea in Arabia Peninsula; founded by Umayyad clan of Quyesh; site of Kaiba; original home ofMuhammad; location of chief religious Pilgrimage point in Islam.
