there is a room so light
i can see the face of everyone who, like an axe of springtime,
could ever defile my snows
i do not see the time
that has left its print
on his hardened face
i lock his stare into mine
from below, forming a perfect pattern
as touching
as hearing
as feeling

on the streets, of different times
of different thoughts
they
devour me
but sometimes
i devour them
gagging, choking, spitting
painful, filthy nevertheless
none has touched me
none has left

but in this light white room
dark eyes with laughing curiosity
put my life to shame with their own deaths
i stare back, i offer my defiance
he takes it, he never gives it back

i don't ever ask for it
when i lock the smile, the eyes, the twitch of a touch
i don't ever think what he has taken forever, unknowingly keeping it
he robs me every time, can't you tell of what
the armour is always left hollow, rattling, rusty
and it can never take the blow of that tired smile
