“All he wanted to do was find someone that he could trust and talk to. A real friend.”
I found myself angrily saying this while walking through the empty hallways on my way to softball practice. I was talking about someone everyone knows and are talking about in school. His name is James Langdon, but nobody knew who he was until he met the Moiras.
The beginning of the school year was very rushed. People were trying to get to their classes, getting everything ready to play for sports, deciding if they wanted to switch classes before the deadline goes out. Meeting up with friends, joining clubs, and playing sports seemed to take up everyone’s time. It wasn’t pleasant having to do all this running around in such a big school either. Especially one that is in a city so close to the beach, keeping the days as hot and tropical as ever throughout the year. With all of this going on, who would notice someone who never talks?
I met James in the second quarter during my English class when I got paired with him for a group assignment. He wanted a friend, but he didn’t know how to make one or what made someone qualify as a “good” friend. I noticed how lonely he was, but then he started talking about the Moiras.
James was actually seeking motivation from the people around him for his P.E. class. Reiner was the person that first gave him tips on what to do. Being 6 ft. tall and always lifting weights, Reiner was the biggest person from the Moiras. James also mentioned that Reiner introduced him to Ryuk and Levi when they went to play a game of dodge-ball for the last 20 mins of class. This was bad news and I wish I had told James that back then.
The Moiras is a group of teenagers who were known for getting others in trouble all the time. I wouldn’t call them bullies, but con artists. They tricked you into believing something was your idea, and then turn it against you. Because of this, they weren’t really people who you could get into trouble very easily.
About two months later, I saw James with Ryuk and Touka. I stopped for a second, gaping. Puzzled. I never understood what the Moiras wanted to do with James. He certainly wasn’t very interesting in my opinion. He also wasn’t very physically fit like all of them were. But before I caught myself staring at them, Touka called me over and I was stuck listening to them joke around for the next 15 minutes.
Once we started art class I overheard something being said about James. “My friend told me that some boy in her math class named James stole her necklace. She was going crazy looking for it, just to find out it was dangling from inside his bag. The teacher didn’t seem to care much though, but I think that guy should’ve gotten some type of detention or something!” This brought up a question, so I asked, “Was one of the Morias there at the time?”
“Of course. The girl that the necklace was stolen from was Hayley!”
I didn’t say anything. Or rather, I didn’t understand why she would do such a thing, but I thought it was best to just forget about it since the teacher didn’t say anything. Besides, what could I have done? It was just a rumor and didn’t really matter anymore. What really got on my nerves was when the Moiras started gossiping about James. At first they were really random things that elementary school kids would say, but then it escalated to personal things that James did on a daily basis.
James thought the other kids were the ones who had spread gossip and rumors about him and not the Moiras. This made him want to be with the Moiras even more because he didn't trust anyone else. I thought this was pretty dumb, but it was nothing compared to what happened at the beginning of spring.
All througout the year you could see James hanging out with the Moiras and
