When High-Powered People Fail Working Memory and “Choking under Pressure” in Math, Sian L. Beilock and Thomas H. Carr, This research states studies showing how individuals perform on a math tests under high and low pressure. Also how the memory is effected under high and low pressure. Therefore the studies prove how individual’s scores are effected by the type of pressure the individuals are going through while taking the tests.
According to Schmader and Johns (2003) examination serotype threats are to blame for how one scores on a test. Stereotype threat is a belief that an individual is may be evaluated based on negative/positive stereotype about a social group. (Beilock, Kulp, Holt, and Carr, 2004) inspected that the mental process is in control of “choking under pressure”.
I learned that depending on the type of pressure whether is its high or low, and that an individual has to go through while working can affect the individual’s outcome to be either good or bad. The current author's hope to learn how pressure can affect the memory and what type of memory is involved.
The hypotheses was that if pressure utilizes the working memory capacity that was accessible for MA (modular arithmetic), then problems that rely on heavily on working memory should face more when the problem solver is under pressure. In the current experiment individuals are given a MA task to do. In the current experiment individuals are put to work in both high and low pressure, but the problems were either set to be low or high in working the memory. The variables that will be examined were the type of pressure and working memory.
This study is an experiment procedures was to have people do math test with high or low working memory under 2 types of pressure which high-pressure and low-pressure, and the outcome was to see how the individuals scored on the MT test.
The methods used was giving individuals MA test which was both high or low working memory, and the individuals either had to do the MA test in high or low pressure. The subjects were the individuals who in doing the MA test in the given conditions.
The procedures that were used was having 4 groups was that they were individually tested on a computer. They were asked to do different types of MA tests. The Material that was used was the MA tests which on the computer that was given in those 4 groups. Group 1: Low Working Memory had individuals do the MA test in both high and low pressure, and they were observed on how they MA test score was. Group 2: High Working Memory had individuals do the MA test in high and low pressure, and they were observed on how the MA test score was. Group 3: Low Working Memory had individuals do the MA test in both high and low pressure, and they were observed on the reaction time. Group 4: High Working Memory had individuals do the MA test in high and low pressure, and they were observed on the reaction time.

The main findings that the authors came to was that individuals were more likely to fail when they were under high pressure compared to the individuals who didn’t have go through the high pressure. The groups was in absence of the high pressure had the ability to succeed.
I would suppose so since they experiment happen to work. In addition they could demonstrate their conclusion. If we’re discussing is it measurably right, I would say no because they only had 80 individuals overviewed. If I were setting out to examine the same question. The changes I would make is that I would have more people to participate in this experiment.
